The Formation of MLPO:

The Mon Language Preservation Organization (MLPO) was initially formed with some like-minded friends in America. With more participants, it took the place of Mon Literature Research Center (MLRC-USA), which was formed in 2005 and of which Nai Sac Lun was the Coordinator. The Mon Language Preservation Organization (MLPO) was granted a 501(c)(3) nonprofit status by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) of the United States on January 6, 2015.

The three present Honorary Advisers of MLPO are:

• 1.    Dr. Chad Thompson, a linguistic professor from PFW University
• 2.    Mr. Fred Gilbert, a retired social worker from the Families and Social Services Administration
• 3.    U Saw Tun, a retired Burmese professor from Northern Illinois University

MLPO’S PROJECT PLANS AND ACTIVITIES THAT NEED FUNDING SUPPORT:

1. A Mon-Burmese Dictionary of more than 1200 pages long: already two-thirds-completed
2. Health Education: Mon Translation of the 446 page-long ” Where There Is No Doctor” and the 583-page-long ” Where Women Have No Doctor”       published by the Hesperian Foundation (USA)
3.Research on Archaic Mon Vocabulary: A Comparative Study of Mon, Burmese and English versions of the Jataka, Stories of Buddha’s Former Births
4.Research on Ramannya Mon Buddhist Lineage
5.Human Rights Education: Mon Translation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), and the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC)
6. Photographing and typing the old Mon manuscripts in Thailand
7. Producing the Flower Garden Journal in Mon periodically
8. Making modern Mon textbooks to provide and increase reading materials for Mon schoolchildren and students
9. Producing a book entitled ” Introduction to the Mon Language” the English for foreign learners
10.A 60- Hours Mon Language Training for Young Mon writers and journalists to increase and strengthen their Mon language skills for mastery of the literary and modern written Mon
11.Providing social services for Mon and Burmese speaker in Fort Wayne and USA who are in need of help for interpretation and translation–such as interpreting at the  courts, hospitals, and clinics, immigration offices, public assistance offices, schools, lawyer offices, on job searches, etc. as well as translating necessary information and documents between English and Mon/Burmese languages
12. Creating new Mon vocabulary necessary to be translated or adopted from English or Burmese and proposing the created words to the Mon Language scholars for consideration, comments and suggestions
13. Picture  Dictionary of Mon, Burmese and English
14. Radio Program and Video Clips on Old Mon Vocabulary
15. Supporting the recording-keeping and archives in the Mon community
